Additional information
  • Tennessee APRN Standard Renewal Requirements: Tennessee APRNs renew every two years in their birth month. Renewal requires maintenance of a current national certification in the advanced specialty and completion of one additional Board-approved competence activity each cycle. If you have a Certificate of Fitness (prescriptive authority), you must also complete 2 hours of CE on controlled substance prescribing (covering Tennessee's chronic pain management guidelines) per renewal ( Tennessee Board of Nursing ).

---

  • First-time renewal: All newly licensed APRNs, including at initial renewal, must meet national certification and the one additional continued competence requirement; there is no first-time waiver tn.gov

---

  • Certification alternative: National certification in your APRN specialty is mandatory each cycle and cannot be substituted; the second requirement may be met with another continued competence activity.

---

  • Other Certifications that nurses hold that need to be renewed: APRNs must maintain any additional specialty or population-focused certifications as required by employer or certifying body, separate from Board renewal.

I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
