Louisiana Dental Hygienist Standard Renewal Requirements: Louisiana dental hygienists renew on a two-year, staggered schedule based on last name (A–L in odd years, M–Z in even years), with licenses expiring on December 31 of the applicable year. Each cycle requires 20 clinical CE hours, including 12 hours of personally attended clinical coursework; the other 8 hours may be done in person or online/correspondence with a written exam. Current CPR/BLS is required at renewal and counts for 3 CE hours. Sedation: Hygienists may obtain a special endorsement to administer local anesthesia (§710) and nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia (§712) under direct on-premises supervision of a dentist; the endorsement expires with the hygiene license.
