To renew on active status, complete 60 CE hours (30 if first renewal), including 2 hours of ethics; there is no cap on online CE, and a current BLS/CPR card (with hands-on component) is required and may count up to 4 CE hours. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me.
