1 hour implicit bias training every three years (not required at first renewal) .
1 hour recognizing dementia every six years for those treating adults aged 26+ .
1 hour cultural competency every six years starting 2025 renewals .
Mandated reporter training within 3 months of employment and every six years thereafter for those required to report child abuse .
3 hours safe opioid prescribing every six years for those with controlled substance licenses

Illinois Physician Assistant Standard Renewal Requirements: llinois Physician Assistants must renew their licenses every two years by their birthday and complete 100 hours of CME within each cycle. State-mandated CE topics include sexual harassment prevention, implicit bias, dementia recognition, cultural competency, child abuse mandated reporter training, and safe opioid prescribing for prescribers with controlled substance registrations. Newly licensed PAs are exempted from the first cycle requirements for sexual harassment and implicit bias training. Compliance with CME requirements is ensured via self-attestation and random audits by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR

I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me.
