Hawaii LPN Standard Renewal Requirements: Hawaii LPNs must renew their licenses every two years by June 30 of odd-numbered years. Each renewal period requires completion of either 30 contact hours of continuing education or one of several approved learning activity alternatives, such as national certification or participation in a refresher course. No in-person or mandatory subject hour requirements are specified—all CEs may be taken online or in any format accepted by an accredited provider. First-time renewal: LPNs who graduated within 12 months of the renewal date are exempt from continuing-competency activities; those graduating 12–24 months prior must complete a reduced requirement such as 15 CE hours or one semester credit. cca.hawaii.gov

Additional Information: Instead of 30 CE hours, LPNs may satisfy competency with current national certification, a Board-approved refresher course, two semester credits of post-licensure nursing coursework, 120 hrs preceptorship, research, publishing, presenting ≥5 CE hrs, a nurse-residency program, or another Board-recognized activity (only one option per cycle).
