Hawaii Physician Assistant Standard Renewal Requirements: Hawaii physician assistants renew every two years on January 31 of even-numbered years (next: Jan 31, 2028) and must complete 40 hours of Category 1/1-A/AAPA Category 1 CME each cycle. The Board allows online or in-person activities that meet those categories and explicitly disallows using NCCPA or board certification to replace CME. See the Hawaii Medical Board’s statute and audit guidance for details: HRS §453-5.3(i) and the PA CME audit memo. Note: the Board’s renewal page also states the supervising physician must be renewed before a PA’s renewal is processed.

Certification alternative (ABMS/AOA or NCCPA): The Board indicates your NCCPA certification must be current to maintain licensure and must be submitted with hardcopy renewal; however, NCCPA certification does not satisfy the CME requirement.
