Hawaii Dental Hygienist Standard Renewal Requirements: Hawaii dental hygienists renew every two years, with licenses lapsing December 31 (odd years) if unmet. For renewal in 2025, most hygienists must document 20 CE hours, at least 12 hours delivered live, and ensure 2 hours of ethics plus an in-person BLS course (up to 4 hours credit). Over half of the CE must be clinical, while limited credit is available for volunteer service, teaching, or convention attendance. All limits and topic rules are detailed in Hawaii Administrative Rules §16-79-141 & §16-79-144 pdf .

Live-hour waiver: For the 2024-2025 biennium only, a blanket waiver (effective Sept 16 2024) lets hygienists complete all 20 CE hours online or self-study; the 8-hour cap and 12-hour live minimum are suspended. The waiver excludes the hands-on skills portion of BLS/ACLS/PALS, which must still be taken in person. DCCA
