Additional information
  • Colorado Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Standard Renewal Requirements: Colorado DOs renew on a fixed biennial schedule (April 30 of odd-numbered years) and, starting with the 2027 cycle, must document 30 CME hours in the prior 24 months through Board-recognized providers. The 2-hour SUD training applies every renewal and counts within the 30 hours. Accepted CME includes ACCME/AMA PRA Category 1, AAFP Prescribed, AOA-approved, or activities required to maintain national board certification. Colorado General Assembly

---

  • First-time renewal: The Board may waive the CME requirement for a physician’s first renewal if initially licensed within 12 months after completing a Board-approved internship or postgraduate training; it may also grant a 6-month extension of the compliance period. Colorado General Assembly

---

  • Certification alternative (ABMS/AOA or NCCPA): No information found on this requirement from the state board site. (Note: programs required to maintain national board certification can count as qualifying CME, but do not replace the statutory hour requirement.) Colorado General Assembly

---

  • Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: Every renewal must include ≥2 hours on substance-use prevention/treatment (Rule 1.29).

---

  • DEA or PMP enrollment: DEA-registered prescribers must register and maintain a PDMP (C.R.S. 12-280-403) account, and must query the PDMP before prescribing a second fill of any opioid or benzodiazepine (C.R.S. 12-30-109). Colorado General Assembly

---

  • Implicit bias / Cultural competency: Statute directs the Board to consider requiring specific CME hours in health disparities and explicit/implicit bias via rulemaking; final hour totals are pending. Colorado General Assembly

I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
