Alabama Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine CME Package – 25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™

• Alabama DO — Standard Renewal Requirements: Alabama DO licenses renew annually by December 31 (with a Jan 1–31 grace period) through the Licensee Gateway. DOs must complete 25 AMA PRA Category 1™, AOA 1-A, or equivalent credits each calendar year, and those with an ACSC must also earn 2 credits every two years on controlled-substance topics and attest at renewal. All licensees must complete a one-time 2-hour professional boundaries course by December 31, 2025 (new licensees within 12 months). See the Board’s pages for Renewals and CME Requirements .

• First-time renewal: Physicians initially licensed in the current calendar year are exempt from the 25-hour requirement for that year; however, new licensees must complete the 2-hour professional boundaries course within 12 months of licensure ( CME Exemptions • Boundaries requirement ).

• Certification alternative (ABMS/AOA or NCCPA): AOA Category 1-A credits fully count toward the annual 25; successful ABMS board certification or MOC may be claimed as equivalent CME in the year completed (NCCPA applies to PAs, not DOs) ( CME Requirements & Equivalents ).

• Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: ACSC holders must earn 2 CME credits every two years in controlled-substance topics and attest to compliance at renewal ( ACSC CME Requirement • Renewals page note ).

• DEA or PMP enrollment: For ACSC renewal, physicians must certify they have a current DEA registration and are registered to query Alabama’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Databank (PDMP) ( ACSC Registration page ).
