Detailed Breakdown
  • Georgia Veterinarian Standard Renewal Requirements: Licensed veterinarians in Georgia must renew their licenses biennially by December 31 of even-numbered years with 30 hours of board-approved continuing education. Of these, 2 hours must cover Georgia laws, rules, and professionalism and can be earned live or via interactive webinars. Eighteen hours must focus on scientific subject matter relevant to veterinary medicine. Veterinarians must certify completion of CE at renewal, and failure to submit proof delays license processing.

    .

---

  • First-time renewal: Veterinarians licensed during the first year of a biennium must complete 15 hours of CE and are exempt from the 2-hour Georgia laws, rules, and professionalism requirement for that first renewal; those licensed in the second year are exempt from CE for that renewal period.

---

  • Carryover & repeat-course rules: No carryover of CE credits is allowed between biennia.

---

  • Documentation & audit: Veterinarians must maintain CE records and proof of attendance for three years and provide documentation upon Board request. Failure to supply documentation by audit deadlines can result in disciplinary actions.

---

  • Exemptions & waivers: CE requirements and renewal fees may be waived during active military duty. Licensees serving on active duty outside Georgia may practice on expired licenses for up to six months post-discharge or reassignment without penalty.

---

  • Renewal logistics: Licenses expire December 31 of even years; failure to submit CE documentation halts renewal processing. Address changes must be updated with the Board within 30 days. No detail on grace period or late fees found.

I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
