Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS): An Overview for Pharmacy Professionals – 0.25 CE

Activity Overview

Middle East respiratory syndrome, commonly known as MERS, is a serious and potentially fatal respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus. Although the illness is rare, there is the possibility that U.S. health care providers, especially those working in hospital and emergency room settings, could encounter the disease. This course is designed to help pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to recognize the signs and symptoms of MERS and take prompt action to help improve the prognosis for infected patients and limit the possibility that the virus will spread to others. This self-directed course is a 0.25 credit CE and can be completed using a mobile device or a laptop.

Pharmacist Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the mode of transmission, common signs and symptoms, and management of MERS-CoV.
  2. List the ways to prevent the transmission of MERS-CoV and keep the patients and the general public informed.
