State requirements for Iowa Veterinarians
Iowa Veterinarian Standard Renewal Requirements:
Iowa veterinarians must renew their licenses every three years by June 30, submitting 60 hours of board-approved continuing education completed within the prior three years.Up to 20 hours may be from practice management courses, and graduate college courses can be converted to CE with credit hour multipliers. There is no minimum live or in-person hour requirement, nor specific mandatory topics. TheIowa Board of Veterinary Medicine oversees approval and enforcement of CE requirements.

First-time renewal: New graduates and those licensed within one year post-graduation are exempt from CE for the initial license period. Partial CE requirements apply if licensed after one year but fewer than three years post-graduation (20 hours if 1-2 years; 40 hours if 2-3 years).
