Georgia Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Standard Renewal Requirements: Georgia DOs renew every two years by the last day of their birth month and must complete 40 hours of Board-approved CME. One-time training includes 3 hours on controlled-substance prescribing for DEA prescribers and 2 hours on professional boundaries/physician sexual misconduct, both of which count toward the 40 hours. Physicians working in a pain clinic or whose opioid pain-management patients comprise ≥50% of their panel must complete 20 hours biennially in pain management or palliative medicine (also counting toward the total). Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: DEA-registered prescribers must complete a one-time, ≥3-hour AMA/AOA Cat 1 course on controlled-substance prescribing; completion counts toward the 40 hours and must be certified at the first renewal after 1/1/2018 or after initial licensure. (

DEA or PMP enrollment: Prescribers must enroll in Georgia’s PDMP (by Jan 1, 2018 or within 30 days of obtaining a DEA registration) and must check the PDMP the first time they prescribe a controlled medication to a patient and at least every 90 days thereafter while treatment continues, subject to listed exceptions.
