About this course
Although cigarette smoking has been decreasing, electronic cigarettes and nicotine delivery devices seem to be gaining in popularity, especially among adolescents and young adults. With the rapid rise in the popularity of e-cigarettes and vaping products, there has been a concurrent increase in associated illnesses and complications. Vaping-related illnesses, particularly e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury (EVALI), have emerged as significant public health issues. As healthcare professionals, it's crucial to be equipped with the necessary knowledge to understand, identify, manage, and prevent these conditions. This training course on vaping-related illnesses has been designed to bridge the knowledge gap, providing healthcare professionals with the tools and information to manage patients with vaping-related lung injuries and help patients reduce their risk for developing these injuries.
In this course, learners will embark on a journey that begins with the history of vaping-related lung injuries and leads up to the cutting-edge prevention strategies. Attention will be given to understanding the demographics most at risk, with an emphasis on the health impact for adolescents and young adults. Further, the program will demystify the agents responsible for these ailments and articulate best practices suggested by authoritative health bodies. Managing and preventing recurrent hospitalization in affected patients is also addressed, rounded off with a focus on precise medical documentation and record keeping for these health concerns. By merging engaging lectures, case studies, and real-world examples, this course aims to offer a blend of theory and practical skills needed to combat this evolving public health challenge.

Patricia Dunn DNP, APRN, FNP-BC is a Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse and 20 years as a Registered Nurse. She has served as an APRN for Florida Pain Institute, Heart Rhythm Associates of Brevard, House Calls of Central Florida. She earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Walden University, Minneapolis.
