Recognize the association between mental health and increased risk of violent behavior (e.g., homicide, intimate partner violence) and make 2 important distinctions, namely differentiating between “normal” violent fantasy and dangerous thoughts and behaviors, and between psychopathy and homicide typology.
Design a targeted and tailored assessment for violence potential and homicide risk guided by an empirically-based predictive model and the presentation of at least 5 violence-specific standardized measures and other resources.
Identify at least 2 ways to promote firearm safety with patients directly, including clinically advocating for the removal of a firearm from home when appropriate and as well-recognized sources for relevant legislation/policy.

The United States has the unfortunate distinction of ranking first in homicide among high-income nations. According to the CDC, homicide is the second leading cause of death (tied with suicide) between the ages of 1-24 and the third to fifth leading cause of death between the ages of 25-44.
