About this course
The rate of burnout among clinicians is increasing rapidly, especially now due to COVID-19 related stressors. Managing personal wellness and moreover teaching wellness to avoid burnout is vital not only for healthcare professionals, but also for the patients they care for. Indeed, increasing burnout is associated with increased medication errors and poor outcomes. Further, significant issues with student and resident mental health have been identified and basic competency of how to manage these difficult topics is widely applicable to healthcare professionals in a variety of settings. This module is geared towards reviewing the core concepts of burnout and its ramifications in the patient care environment but is primarily aimed as a self-study to complete a life audit where a series of exercises will be used to evaluate strategies for improving wellness in one’s own life and their trainees.
