Vaccine Safety and Administration – 2.0 CE

Activity Overview

This activity provides healthcare professionals with an overview of the latest vaccine safety and administration principles as well as the proper documentation and handling of vaccines and the management of adverse reactions to vaccines. Participants can complete this two-hour course at their own pace from the convenience of their computer, tablet, or mobile device.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe preparation for vaccine administration, including supply selection (e.g., reconstitution, needle length)
  2. Outline procedures for vaccine administration: SQ, IM, IN
  3. Identify safety considerations during vaccine administration (e.g., handling and disposal of sharps)
  4. Describe the procedures for immunization-related documentation
  5. Describe best practices for managing vaccine-related adverse reactions and emergency situations
  6. Recall best practices in receiving, storing, and handling vaccines

Katie Blair, PharmD, RPh, is a consultant pharmacist in Portland, OR, providing medication services to residents in long-term care and assisted living facilities in the area. Katie also has over six years of experience working as a staff pharmacist at a community pharmacy in Seattle, WA. She graduated from Northeastern University in Boston in 2009 with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
