The rapidly evolving landscape of type 2 diabetes management necessitates that healthcare professionals stay abreast of the latest standards of care, as highlighted by the ADA’s 2023 update. Given the pace of change, driven by groundbreaking clinical trials, this training module distills the most current recommendations and elucidates their implications for patient care.

Structured to mirror the segments found in the ADA’s comprehensive report, this course offers a section-by-section analysis. Not only does it outline the updated recommendations in each section, but it also demonstrates how these sections interrelate to formulate a holistic care plan for patients with type 2 diabetes. This focus ensures that healthcare professionals are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver evidence-based, integrated care.

At the conclusion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:

1. Describe the 2023 ADA Guideline updates for evidence-based, recommended management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
2. Develop treatment strategies for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and common comorbidities.
3. Discuss the risks of overtreatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in older patients (>70).
