The Role of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians in Managing Type 2 Diabetes in Young People – 1 CE

Activity Overview

Youth onset of Type 2 diabetes impacts 20,000 to 25,000 children annually. Additionally, children impacted by Type 2 diabetes and obesity have a higher propensity to carry similar health-related problems into adulthood. This one-hour course provides and overview of the prevalence of Type 2 diabetes among youth, risk factors, complications, and proactive prevention. In addition, it highlights the various ways pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can assist their younger patients in preventing or managing Type 2 diabetes. This is a self-directed course that participants can complete from the convenience of their computer or mobile device.

Pharmacist Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Define and differentiate pre-diabetes, Type 1, and Type 2 diabetes and its epidemiology among young people.
  2. Identify the common causes and risk factors of Type 2 diabetes among youth.
  3. Recall common complications associated with Type 2 diabetes among young people.
  4. Identify counseling points that pharmacists can include to help young patients manage their Type 2 diabetes.

At the conclusion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:
