In today’s rapidly changing healthcare landscape, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians play a vital role in the delivery of quality patient care. With the increasing complexity of medication management and the expanding roles of pharmacy professionals, effective precepting has become essential for fostering the growth and development of the next generation of pharmacy practitioners. Recognizing this need, our comprehensive course on precepting is designed to equip pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with the necessary tools and strategies to become effective mentors, ensuring that their mentees are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the modern healthcare environment.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:
- Recall the four main preceptor roles with corresponding expectations
- Recall the six learning styles and the five teaching styles
- Identify effective formative and summative feedback components

Faculty Information
Mark “Pain Guy” Garofoli is a Pitt PharmD graduate, Strayer MBA graduate, Board-Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (BCGP), Certified Pain Educator (CPE), and Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS). His past positions include being a pharmacist leader with CVS Health, Humana, and the WV Safe & Effective Management of Pain (SEMP) Program, along with coordinating the WV SEMP Guidelines Panel. Today, he is WVU School of Pharmacy faculty, WVU School of Medicine Pain Fellowship Faculty, and a WVU Medicine Pain & Addiction Pharmacist. Mark has been a 2021 TEDx Talker, CDC grant reviewer, civil/criminal expert witness, seasoned CE developer and presenter, and is the host of the Pain Pod.
