At the conclusion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe the process for developing and testing vaccines and the various types of vaccines available in the United States.
  2. Identify the COVID-19 vaccines that are currently available as well as the guidelines for the storage, dosing, administration, and distribution of the vaccines.
  3. Recall current public health recommendations for individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
  4. Identify and define viral mutation & how virus variants are classified.
  5. Compare and contrast emerging SARS-CoV-2 viral variants.
  6. Identify how emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants may impact vaccine performance and other public health measures.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of the role of genomic and strain surveillance in protecting public health.
  8. Identify the possible consequences of virus mutation.
  9. Identify measures that vaccinated individuals should take in light of emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants.
