The rising incidence and complexities of gout, a common form of arthritis closely tied to overconsumption of food and alcohol, requires healthcare professionals to stay updated with the most current treatment guidelines, as set forth by the American College of Rheumatology . To address this urgent need, the course will offer a comprehensive overview of diagnostic protocols, both abortive and prophylactic pharmacological options, as well as evidence-based non-pharmacological interventions. The ultimate goal is to empower healthcare practitioners with the most current knowledge and practical skills to enhance patient outcomes through effective, evidence-based management of gout.

At the conclusion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:

1. Explain the pathophysiology of gout
2. Describe the clinical presentation of acute gouty arthritis
3. Describe the different classes of medication used for treatment and prevention of gout
4. Identify patients who qualify for prophylactic urate lowering therapy (ULT)
5. Create a treatment plan for a patient with acute gouty arthritis
