Activity Overview
Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are a major problem both nationally and globally. Novel antibiotic options are being developed for treatment of multidrug resistant Gramnegative bacterial infections.
This activity is intended to make pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and nurses aware of these novel antibiotics to recognize their potential clinical utility, pharmacology, adverse effects, and clinical pearls as well as evaluate available literature on their use for treatment of such infections.

At the conclusion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:
- Review common resistance mechanisms among Gram-negative bacteria
- Describe novel antibiotic agents based on their pharmacological properties and spectrum of activity
- Evaluate the role of novel antibiotic agents in the treatment of multidrug resistantGram-negative bacterial infections based on emerging clinical data

Faculty Information
Wesley D. Kufel, PharmD, BCIDP, BCPS, AAHIVP is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Binghamton, NY. He is also a clinical infectious diseases pharmacist at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY, where he provides clinical services for the antimicrobial stewardship program and the infectious diseases consultation teams. He also holds an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.
